We had breakfast at the hotel, temperature was -35\u00b0C with a feel like of -45\u00b0C we decided that going out for food was not a great idea. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

After breakfast we decided to get a cab to the bush pilot monument in old town.  The cab dropped us off at the foot of the hill, the monument is at the top of the hill. It was a short climb, maybe 50 steps, covered in snow.  At the top the view was great, we got a really great 360\u00b0 view of Yellowknife.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We then took a walk to where we are picking up the plane to Blachford Lake Lodge.  Just so we know where we’re going tomorrow.  After finding the location for the plane, we walked to the TD bank or rather the original branch of the original branch of the Toronto bank.  A cabin in the woods, high tech for the times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While walking back toward old town center we heard some dogs, so we hdad to stop and see what was up.  A kick sledding tour group was getting geared up to head out on the ice.  It looks like a lot of fun so we tried to join this group but it was full.  We did get a chance to book a tour for the day we get back from the lodge.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We walked toward the snow castle and found the glass shop and thought about stopping in but it wasn’t quite 12:00 (which is when the shop opens), but the owner popped the door open and let us in.  They had some wonderful stuff and picked up a gift for Jess, I got a coffee mug and Krista got a caraffe, everything is being shipped home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We then made our way back to the snow castle, just to see if there was any progress on the snow sculptures.  These guys are very talented.  Pictures to be attached. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We then had a little lunch, and got a cab back to the hotel to rest were Aurora hunting tonight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

9:00pm:  Our Aurora hunting tour starts.  Our guide Joe, picked us up t the hotel, and the adventures starts.  We made one stop to take a look and the sky, though clear, did not produce any Aurora.  Our next stop though did and it was spectacular, the sky exploded with bright green Aurora.  It was dancing across the sky for about 10 minutes and then stopped.  This was a great show.  We then spent the next 3 hours driving around from place to place looking for more Aurora, with no luck.  Joe did keep us entertained with stories and information on the Aurora.  Just before we returned to the hotel we made one last stop and saw some faint Aurora.  We got back to the hotel just after 1:00pm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tomorrow we head to the lodge.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
